1st Methods Seminar: Agent-Based Modeling in Social Sciences

The CAS project Social Science Meets Biology is inviting to a seminar held by Jessica Dimka.

Jessica Dimka is co-leader of the Centre for Research on Pandemics & Society and former Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet).

Abstract

Agent-based simulation models aim to understand the system- or population-level outcomes that emerge from individual characteristics, actions and interactions. This workshop will begin with a presentation on theories and key concepts of ABMs, as well as strategies for and challenges with communicating methods and findings to different audiences. Participants will then have the opportunity to discuss examples from relevant fields and initial ideas for models that could address their own research interests. The workshop will conclude with an introductory tutorial on NetLogo, a popular, open-access software program (download link). One or two short examples to read beforehand will be sent out closer to the workshop.
